Coaching – Teams

As organizations evolve, collaboration across boundaries becomes more essential. Up to a point, it’s easy and natural to collaborate. Then it becomes difficult.

The challenges are obvious. Many so-called “teams” actually are working groups, lacking common purpose, shared work product, and, especially, mutual accountability. When cross-functional or other cross-boundary groups need to cooperate despite conflicts of interest, clear decision-making frameworks are needed.

Often what’s most challenging, though, is the basic, human stuff. Every workplace – including the C-suite – has its share of pretense, avoidance, and denial.  Some people don’t want to give up turf. They may shrink from conflict, and sacrifice candor to avoid it. They may not perceive the common good. They may indulge the boss. They may withdraw, or hide.

Team coaching is a powerful way to address these remarkably common issues. It may be combined with other Accompli services, or delivered independently.

Accompli team coaching usually begins with a Business 360, followed by a team meeting to absorb feedback and set goals. Then the Accompli coach observes meetings, often monthly – intervening as needed, offering observations, and facilitating difficult conversations. Between meetings, the coach meets confidentially with individual team members, taking their pulse, listening to their concerns, giving feedback, and determining what’s needed to move the team forward.

With a little help – and a strong dose of reality – leadership groups coalesce into teams. Teams become effective. Effective teams become highly effective.
